Stage 1 (Recasting)

I am thinking of doing the Wife of Bath's Tale, the knight however, will be a student who has been caught cheating. He must redeem his honor somehow. He meets the dean of students who asks him what teacher's ultimate goal is and why cheating is so wrong. He traveled to Britain, ( my resetting of the Tales), where he would contemplate and ask his friends over the matter. He finds his answer when he glances at the stain glassed window of Britain.

I plan to expand this video with the student meeting the dean of students, then eating in Britain with his freinds, he asks them the question and they say, "to pay the mortgage, "to fail their students for pleasure," but finally realizing the answer to the question when he looks at the stain glassed window. Teacher's Goal is preperate their students to better themselves and the wrold.

  1. Ok, I hadn't thought about updating the Wife of Bath's tale in this way...but it sounds like you have a really good idea going here. The only problem I have with the idea you have is that I believe the assignment is to create a new character or update a character whose tale we haven't read yet. Because we read the Wife of Bath's tale in class and analyzed it, I don't think it is permissible to use this. You might wanna ask Robin about that though...

Since I'm not sure about that, I'll go ahead and analyze what you have got going on here. I like how you transposed the Knight to be a student caught cheating. The Dean of Students is a good replacement for King. Just keep developing your thesis and talk to Robin about the assignment as soon as you can.

    Good luck!

  2. Just to clear things up, I think were are not allowed to use any source material from the Wife of Bath's Tale, Man of Law's Tale, and the Pardoner's Tale considering we already analyzed them in class and discussions. But I really liked how you changed the story of the knight to fit your setting of Brittain and Georgia Tech. I'm not sure what the main thesis for your argument is, but it's very interesting idea. The idea of "dishonor" among students is a perfect fit. Students at Tech seem to cheat a lot and break the honor code too much, so comparing a current student to a knight being dishonorable through his own code allows the reader to definitely know the two relate. The idea will also allow you to combine the essay and video together where they can build off of each other to strengthen your argument. All and all, its a good idea just try and find another Tale to compare it too.
